Joy Prom is a full-scale prom for young adults with special needs. The night is put on by a collection of unlikely volunteers gathered for a common purpose - to make this an unforgettable evening for the guests. In Las Vegas, Joy Prom occurred consecutively in 2009 and 2010. Nationally, there have been dozens of Joy Prom’s and the inspiration continues to build and flourish.

The first two years Joy Prom occurred due to the facilitation of a small, local church. Because of explosive demand, it was quickly discovered that the event needed to become a separate entity and it will be turned into a 501 c (3) to ensure its legacy and continue to be hosted in the most efficient manner. This transition entails the need for additional donations of professional services such as law, insurance, and accounting firms as well as more community partners.

We are deeply saddened to communicate that due to the re-organization of the Joy Prom Las Vegas this year, the heartbreaking decision had to be made that there will not be a Joy Prom in 2011. However, to make the event bigger and better for 2012, a formal board of directors has been appointed and the process to create formal charitable foundation status has begun to deliver the best experience possible for our future guests and volunteers. The next prom is slated for May 12, 2012 and will be graciously hosted at the M Resort.

• The flow of the evening begins when guests arrive and are immediately paired with a volunteer host or hostess who will accompany them throughout the evening’s activities which include dinner and dancing.
  
  
• The event begins at registration where guests receive a custom nametag and are swept off to prepare for their red carpet entrance.
  
  
• The ladies receive hair and make-up services by expert stylists and make-up artists, and receive a corsage.
  
  
• The gentlemen will be looking their best after having their shoes shined by UNLV football players and boutonnières pinned on their jackets.
  
  
• The guests have their professional portrait taken, which they receive as a framed gift at the end of the evening.
  
  
• The excitement begins when guests make their way to the red carpet to be formally introduced, interviewed by a renowned emcee, greeted by the paparazzi, sign autographs and receive their own individual walk of fame. After their walk of fame, they will be ushered to dinner.
  
  
• Guests conclude their special evening by dancing the night away. The entire evening is documented by over 20 expert photographers and a videographer.
